Do The Benefits Of Alcohol Outweigh The Social Costs? by BlissP(m): 9:57pm On Jun 08, 2016
Can someone move away from subsidy wahala and please answer this simple question?
WHO DRANK IT
Nigerian Breweries recorded sales of almost N300 billion in 2015 while Guinness is expected to record sales of N275 billion totaling almost =N=600 Billion (About $3 billion) which is about 3% of our GDP. That is about 3 billion bottles of beer and when distributed across 170 million people is about 200 bottles per person a year. The average Nigerian is either a Christian or a Muslim. Both religions enjoined adherents to avoid alcohol. So, who drank=N=600 billion worth of alcohol in one year? A country of unassailable contradictions... More churches and mosques than anywhere else on the continent.
Please who drank it?
This is interesting because It does not include paraga, and other assorted foreign and local drinks like Ogogoro, palm wine, alomo, kerewa,..... etc. If these are added, only God knows...!
But please answer me... Who drank it?

On a Second thought, I believe that the benefits of alcohol outweigh the social costs because, throughout human history, the tradition of people drinking together has been instrumental in creating friendships and smoothing out differences. The percentage of people in which alcohol creates problem situations, such as aggression or drunk driving, is much smaller than the percentage who find that alcohol promotes relaxation and appropriate socialization.

I believe the cost outwieighs the cost.

The average nigerian over drinks alcohol.
We don't usually take other forms of beverage tea, coffee, juices, milk etc as much as some ppl drink beer. These other beverages are a lot cheaper and beneficial in the long run.

Social impact
Its true that some friendship are made on the beer table but most of these friendship are fake n temporary.
The average nigerian still cannot be trusted.lol...
After drinking, wat comes next sometimes is how to have sex or pick up a fight and in most cases u can't really perform regular chores. The people get tired easily leading to fatique/laziness n poor productivity.
