Introduction:
The Student Christian Movement (SCM) of Nigeria is Christian not- for- profit, non
governmental youth ministry affiliated to the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF).

The SCM’s constituency is primarily the Student world,and has been working with all categories which include out- of -school youths (through the Christian Movement Fellowship) and in- school youths (through secondary and tertiary institutions) in Nigeria for the past 75 years. Her motto is, John 17:21 “that all may be one” while aiming at winning the young people for Christ. It has its membership from the Students and Senior Friends.

Job Details

The General Secretary is the head of the Management team of the Movement and will be responsible for the day to day administration of the organization. With the oversight of the National Executive officers, through the National President, the General Secretary will seek to help implement the strategy and activities of the SCM of Nigeria.

This will include:
• Raising awareness of the SCM and her activities among the wider communities including the church and government circles.
• Planning for and running specific activities, events and conferences.
• Overseeing the integrity of the Movements communication strategies and means.
• Provide leadership for the National & Sectoral Staff and co-ordinating their work including monthly staff meetings.
• Where necessary and alongside the National Executive Officers assist in recruitment of staff and volunteers.
• Networking and developing partnerships with other likeminded organisations such as WSCF, NIFES, CCN, CAN etc.
• Attending National Executive and trustees meetings.
• Represent SCM in all external meetings
• Producing agendas and reports for NEC and trustee meetings


RESOURCES AND RELATIONSHIPS

Supporting, encouraging and inspiring members especially students and other young people to be a witness to Christ and their faith in Him is key to the vision and mission of the SCM. To promote and effect this, SCM of Nigeria is committed to providing relevant resources and building relationships which are accomplished through a variety of media and a range of activities.

DEVELOPMENT OF RESOURCES & REPORTS

The SCM of Nigeria is committed to developing and making available various resources which are relevant to the lives and faith in Christ of its members and the wider church and Christian community. The General Secretary will be involved in the planning, writing, commissioning and developing such resources as will help accomplish this objective

ADMINISTRATION AND FUND RAISING

The GS shall be dealing with emails and correspondence efficiently. S/He will be willing to work alongside the entire staff team to provide support to the entire ministry of the SCM including fundraising and membership.

• Proficient administrative and computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher.
• Good communication skills: able to teach in small groups and seminars.

• Confident in written ability including preparation of content for articles and resources.
• Able to demonstrate and understanding of pastoral and counselling skills.

The Director of Senior Friends and Alumni Relationships is an integral part of the SCM leadership team. He or she will be responsible for the efficient and effective development, management and growth of our Senior Friends /Alumni Networks across the World.

• Work with the Executive of the SCM to develop corporate policies and procedures operations for Senior Friends/Alumni & oversee implementation of same.
• Ensure the development and maintenance of a robust data base for this constituencies.
• Execution of the National Senior Friends/Alumni Conferences as directed by the NEC and regular induction ceremonies of Final year scmers to the Senior friends groups.
• Developing seamless communications to all Senior friends/Alumni.
• Coordinate effective linkages between the Senior friends groups and all other constituent parts of the Movement.
• Maintain effective International Relations with members of theWSCF Senior groups.
• Ability to develop and maintain a viable Senior friends accounts through fund raising and prudent spending.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & STUDY

The intending applicant must have a minimum of First degree from a recognized Institution and preferably had at least 5 years post NYSC experience working with mature people and managing responbilities. The Prospective candidate should be at least 30 years of age,preferably married with a good knowledge of the Bible. Some proven track record of theological training or study would be helpful.
