Nigeria Is The Economic Engine Of Africa- President Buhari. by nex(m): 8:45pm On Jun 22, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Nigerian economy is the engine of Africa.

He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the welfare of Nigerians is paramount at all times.

The president stated this when he hosted the council of Ministers to break Ramadan fast in the presidential villa Abuja.

“It is no news that we are the biggest country in Africa. We are the economic engine of Africa. We must be patriotic in our dealings with others,” the President said.

Commenting on Ramadan generally President Buhari said it made people conscious of what leaders at every level ought to do and that leading people was not a joke.

The Nigerian leader advised the militants in the Niger delta region to give up their arms struggle and accept peace.

In a similar vein, President Buhari advised the youths clamouring for the creation of Biafra as an independent country from Nigeria to have a second thought.

“To the militants in their various homes we need to reflect very seriously on what happened in 1967 and 1970. About 2 million Nigerians lost their lives. And at that time as a young military officer you hardly heard of anything about petroleum or whatever money you got and where you got it from. Look at what General Yakubu Gowon former military head of State at that time said. ‘To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’. We were quarrelling with our brothers we were not fighting an enemy and then somebody is saying that once again he wants Biafra,”he explained.

The president is of the opinion that such people are driven by youthful exuberance “I think this is because they were not born when there was Biafra. We have to reflect on historical antecedents to appreciate what is before us now and what we intend to leave for our children and our grand children”, he concluded.

The Vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo led the ministers to this breaking of fast with the president.

It would be recalled that President Buhari had hosted the service Chiefs to a similar breaking of fast the previous night.

The Chief of Defence Staff General Gabriel Abayomi Olonishakin used the occasion to pledge the loyalty of the armed force to the president who is also the Commander -In- Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
