Brexit; An Increased Chance For WWIII. (op's Opinion) by ibautodealer(m): 12:05am On Jun 26, 2016
History has been made on 23 June 2016, when Britain orchestrated a referendum for her citizens to determine if Britain should stay or leave the EU. Fortunately, for the Leave campaign group, the wish of the Brits favored them when most of the Brits voted to stop giving up part of Britain's sovereignty for regionalism.
The EU whose origin can be traced to the European Coal and Steel Community which was created in 1951, later changed to European Economic Community in 1958 and to European Union 1993. However, EU has been one of the most successful international organisations which has set the standard for the creation of other international organisations like ECOWAS, ASEAN etc.
The creation of the EU was inline with the beliefs of the exponents of the liberalism school of thought in international relations which postulated that if countries in the international system cooperate on economic and political bases, this will eliminate the will for violent confrontation but peaceful means of resolving inter-country differences. Britain as a colonial super power and one of the permanent members of the United Nations security council, has great diplomatic capabilities in the international system compared to other member states, nevertheless, her importance and role in EU might not be filled or contained in years to come if Britain is able to conclude the withdrawal procedure of article 50 of the treaty on EU because apart from the economic and political roles, Britain as well play significant roles in the security and stability of Europe. Moreover, her effort to prevent violent confrontation was as a result of the fact that Britain belongs to a 28 member institution and also its front runner, the role she played under the auspices of the EU to prevent the Russia occupation of Crimea in 2014 and the Turkey grounding of the Russian war plane in 2015 from generating into a full blown violent confrontation can never be underestimated.
The world wars that has ranged in the past started from Europe which brought about carnage and universal instability. The First world war which lack of cooperation among countries in Europe that gave rise to secret diplomacy was one of the reasons that led to the war and the second world war was also as a result of a defunct international organisation that could not exercise its functions. However one of the pragmatic solutions which has been proffered was cooperation among countries in Europe that EU is playing that role in the present day Europe but on the brink of collapsing because analysts has predicted that if Britain should successfully leave EU, other members like France, Sweden, Nederland, Denmark, Hungary, etc are also likely to exit from the EU which may lead to its demise. it may be very difficult for Europe to be stable without a well functioning cooperative organisation due to the extreme complicated political structure of the continent where the west is inclined with capitalism and the east communism/socialism. it is important to note that the intra-European aggression is like a prostate illness which can only be managed. Moreover, when a solution to a problem ceases, there is high propensity that the problem may persist. No matter how strategic Anglo-EU relationship can be, it is not likely to restore the coordination Europe has before Brexit. However, this may lead the world to another world war as pure anarchical Europe has done in the past.
