Someone told me, "Facebook ruins lives, don't do it!". Later she said she was joking, but then sort of serious, telling me stories of page-highjacking, compromising picture posting, and other evil things that she has witnessed happen to her friends on facebook. Do you have any Facebook "horror stories" that you know about that supports her theory and what negative influence do you think facebook is having on our culture?. |

I had to deactivate my old account and open a new one with very strict restrictions. I alone can add people Nobody can find me using search except my friends. Nobody can see my profile pictures except my friends. It's crazy but I needed to start all over again and delete any trace of certain people from my fb. |

Look at how Nigerians tracked down the Minnesota 11 using facebook. Someone told me she saw her picture on a dating site being used by an unknown person who lives in far away Jordan. She posted the picture on facebook and somebody copied it to trap a man. Since she knows nobody in jordan and her facebook account is under lock and key, how else did the person get hold of her picture? |

What about the time a facebook contact brought my pictures to Nairaland forcing me to delete every male friend from NL except those I had chatted with in the past? |
Re: Facebook Ruins Cultures And Lives by Nobody: 6:30pm On Sep 11, 2009 |
some people dont know everything they type on their computer can be tracked and logged. Neither is it only Nigerians doing the tracking- its open to anyone with an interest in doing so. Including strangers from far |

There are the good sides of facebook tho; Nigerians easily form coalitions there and I think Facebook will shape the 2011 elections in Nigeria. |
Re: Facebook Ruins Cultures And Lives by C2H5OH(f): 7:17pm On Sep 13, 2009 |
Shape it how? Be more specific. Not when you continue to have rigging and corrupt ballot counters at the helm of things. The Big C still runs things in Nigeria. |

Shape it how? Be more specific. Not when you continue to have rigging and corrupt ballot counters at the helm of things. It shaped US politics; shaped Iranian election even though they stopped it very late and went ahead to rig the election. Who says it wouldn't shape Nigeria's election?. No harm in trying. There are many coalition groups that monitor their state governors on facebook now. Don't you see that facebook as a powerful tool for 2011 elections in Nigeria? |

FB is a great tool to keep in touch with many friends you could have easily lost contact otherwise. One should be always careful about writing any personal information though. |

Woman sues over fake Facebook profile of son September 24, 2009 8:36 P A mother is fighting back against four youngsters she said created a fake Facebook account of her son, posting racist and sexual information purportedly by him. The mother, Laura Cook, filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court today against the youths identified only by their initials, claiming they purposely defamed her teenage son and damaged his reputation. The 20-page suit claims defendants, R.C., A.G., K.Z. and M.S., created a profile on the popular social networking site that featured the name and photo of Cook's son, along with his actual cell phone number. On this fake profile, the four defendants posted obscenities and statements describing Cook's son as engaging in sex with other males. The suit also claims the youngsters posted statements to make the young man appear racist, including one about President Barack Obama. The fake profile for Cook's son, identified in the suit as John Doe, had at least 580 online friends before it was removed and has harmed his reputation with friends and athletic peers, the suit claims. Cook's attorney, Charles Mudd Jr., declined to comment Thursday night. The suit seeks unspecified damages and seeks to bar the defendants from ever impersonating him online. --William Lee http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/09/woman-sues-over-fake-facebook-profile-of-son.html |
