It's like saying being able to converse fluently in one's native language impedes one's ability to also speak or write English. I am sure Soyinka, Achebe and the likes would grossly disagree.

I'm not polished but I'm not a bad grammarian either, I used to be very fluent until 6yrs ago when I started speaking the commoners English, i had to retrace my steps and stop all communication in pidgin. I made up my mind never to get involved with anyone who adopts it as lingua franca and I think it helped me a lot, though I still post comments in pidgin if I want to throw jibes. My gf has been helpful too because she has a bad ear for pidgin.

Are you saying the Chinese, Japanese and some.other non English speaking countries with great inventions and scientist are unintelligent simply because they cant speak good english?
