it means, your data will be doubled whenever you subscribe for data for that 6 month period. it happened when you buy a new smartphone and use a registered mtn sim card on it.
go ahead and load the 1K, and then subscribe for the 1.5G data. you will end up getting 3G data, I.e, double.

The data bonus is for one week. I said it earlier MTN surrounded themselves in mystery, to defraud innocent Nagieria. Use *131*4# you get your data balance. Check *599*77#. you get your data balance and bonus. Furthermore, If you do not exhaust your bonus after one week the data is wiped living only your main data. That has being my experience
