The OP made the question ambiguous by calling it a maths question.....well technically, it is, but it's more of quantitive reasoning. However, if it was a math question, it'd come from the topic 'binary operations', and the operation 'a+b' would be defined such that a+b= ab+a...or a*(b+1)......either one works.....

The answer is 96

tomquest:

1+4=5
2+5=7+5=12
3+6=9+12=21
4+7=11+21=32
5+8=13+32=45
6+9=15+45=60
7+10=17+60=77
Therefore,
8+11=19+77=96

what kind of fuckery is this right answer wrong technique you cannot be using figures from other lines. You solve each line individually with the same technique to get the answers not imagining some random "7+5" etc.

1+4 = 5 ( 4*1 = 4 , 4-1 =3, 4-3 = 1, 4+1 = 5 )
2+5 = 12 (5*2 = 10, 5-2 = 3, 5-3=2, 10+2 = 12)
3+6 = 21 (3*6 =18, 6-3 =3, 6-3 =3 18+3 = 21)
8+ 11 =96 (8*11=88, 11-8=3, 11-3 =8, 8+88 =96)

wrong. 96 is the correct answer because it follows the series. 1+4=5 2+5=7+5=12 3+6=9+12=21 4+7=11+21=32 5+8=13+32=45 6+9=15+45=60 7+10=17+60=77 Therefore, 8+11=19+77=96

His method is about as correct as yours. It's a series....and while his method is too long, yours is too complex. A simpler method would be defining the operation and it's quite obvious that '+' is defined such that a+b=ab+a or a*(b+1)

Far from correct. you cannot influence the results of subsequent answers from previous questions!!!
this isn't a 'series' of numbers that derive the result from previous numbers
they are individual questions that have to solved individually using only the provided figures in each question
Imagine if they skipped a few lines and asked you to provide the next result using only the provided number what then?

21 + 32 ?? how would you solve this without using my method ? NB notice the omitted lines. Except you use MY [/b] method you CANNOT SOLVE

Appreciate the logic and move on. No need to try and discredit the ingenuity that went into it albeit it was #softwork

It's not a series, I admit my mistake.....but I already pointed out the fact that it was a binary operation because mathematically, 2+5=/=12 and 3+6=/=21.....so '+' has to be a defined operation...therefore a+b=ab+a or a*(b+1)
