Religion is a social construct. God can't be religious because he is the object of most "religion". Now, what people consider "God", can be interpreted in all manners and vastly different ranging from budhism/Hinduism (polytheistic) to Judaism/Christianity (monotheistic) to new age philosophy of defining God as as ethereal entity; "energy of the universe", "ying yang" type and the like.

He is the one who is being worshipped and reverred, He began it all, ground zero of it all ergo sum per definition of religion, God technically cannot be practice religion.
