Nigeria’s free fall in the monthly FIFA ranking may land Super Eagles players plying their trade in England in trouble.

The Eagles according to the latest FIFA ranking released Thursday are rated 70 in the world and 17th in Africa below African soccer minnows like Benin Republic and Uganda.

And going by British soccer rules, non EU (European Union) players from countries that are ranked below70 in the world are not entitled to work permit.

As it stands, should the Eagles remain where they are at the moment or slip further in the months ahead, then players from Nigeria risk not getting their UK work permit renewed.

“If Nigeria slip one more place, her players can’t play in England,” said African football expert Tunde Adelakun.

“Work permit laws for non-European players say the player’s country has to be in top 70 in the world.”

An immediate casualty of this could be Nigeria U20 skipper, Kelechi Nwakali, who is set to soon sign a professional contract with Arsenal.

Nigerian stars in England include Odion Ighalo, Isaac Success (Watford), Ahmed Musa (Leicester City), Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City) and Mikel Obi, Victor Moses (Chelsea).

Thanks to Buhari. No good incentives on ground to motivate our sports enthusiasts to achieve greatness in the world of sports. unlike Gej that made nifty remuneration systems, appointed a competent sports minister and so on. jonathan was able to achieve records that the Super Eagles won the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in South Africa under his administration. The Super Eagles also equaled the best record Nigeria ever had at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Nations U-17 team won FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE. The female U-20 team won silver at the Junior World Cup, the u-23 eagles finished third in the CHAN tournament without any former experience in the tournament. Nigeria had the best performance at the Commonwealth Games and the World Athletics Championship and these, and many more did Nigeria enjoy under Jonathan's administration.

All these achievements in sports happened because the Jonathan created a conducive atmosphere where Nigerian sports men and women strive to do better. This is because they knew the president appreciated them.

What do we expect from this administration that appointed a barrister as sports minister?

Every game would count to d players now.

This would even spur them more to beat Zambia in Lusaka come October.

That fifa Ranking stuff is bullshit ! Nigeria can't go further down , this is the worst we will have .

I think there will be a review in the EU. Rules that is governing the foreign players , presently they re no longer part of EU so ,I don't expect that to affect them .

your coaches are the biased ones choosing to play a bunch of vulcanizers posing as footballers over actual players.

Look at the rubbish Siasia did against Egypt, refusing to start Kelechi and Iwobi when we needed a win, can a player pit himself on? Is it not the coach that makes the call on who plays? Look at the difference when Yusuf played Kelechi and co in the consequent friendlies.

All the people playing rubbish don't even ply their trade in the EPL, rather they're in mushroom leagues in China, Israel and Kazakhstan, so this ranking won't affect them

did you read the article? the rule is actually a British rule so how will they consider to mutate it even if they receded their membership in EU?

I feel the rule is staying immutable to me. the eagles in England are indeed in a precarious position.

on point.

I have lost my confidence in Siasia for his ineffectual tactics. To be objective, I don't foresee the dream team performing exploits in this Olympics after suffering myriad pre-Olympics defeats from the U-20 team and others. he even averred that the team is impromptu towards the impending tournament.
