Be it a rumour or the truth I once heard that PhD holders applied for Dangote's drivers job. Quite worrying a situation should it be near the truth.

That asides, I got into a discussion with a senior friend who's currently pursuing a PhD. He's also a Polytechnic lecturer. I finished my MSc in same school he's currently taking his PhD and he'd always advise that I continue on to a PhD.

Until today we've always disagreed on the necessity of a PhD and how a PhD stiffens one's applications and limits the applicant to teaching jobs only, save in some special circumstances. He then made a statement in the form of a question that I couldn't answer and I decided to 'investigate'.

He asked, " How many people you know have PhD but have no jobs?" (sic).

As part of my investigation I'm asking same question on this forum. Have you met anyone who's a PhD holder that has no job, even a teaching job?
