Cristiano Ronaldo is the island of Madeira’s most famous native, and the regional government on Friday honoured the Real Madrid star by changing the name of the international airport in his honour.

Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira, was the one who authorised and announced the switch.

Ronaldo, still recovering from injury and not yet reporting for Real Madrid’s pre-season, was on the island as well, celebrating the opening of his new hotel.
