A 400L student at the department of English, Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto , has emerged the new Students Union Government president of the University. Her emergence became imminent after the impeachment of the elected SUG president. Ms. Amina Yahaya is the second female student in Northern Nigeria to occupy the office of an SUG President.

About 30 years ago a front line activist and student politician, Najatu Mohammed, broke the first record and became the SUG president of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Najatu Mohammed contested the post and won in the early 80s, breaking the record of the first female student to occupy the office in Africa.
