Am planning to save ₦300,000 this year. Is it a bad idea to start with this amount?
Is ₦300,000 enough to start with 120 birds..

You are totally wrong. Hens only lay eggs 4,5 to 6 eggs in a week .

Story!!! Do your calculations the revenue is 302.400 if a farmer spend up to that in feeding then what's the gain huh?? Go give your quotation to the gods. As a igbo girl we do more calculation.. If the feeding is up to that no gain then...bro will you only feed the layers for just one month? Think before u type

. I am talking bout the peak period when the hens started laying eggs . Now u have 350 birds 350 divided by 30 is 11.66666666666667 x 750 ur crate price that’s 8750 . Hen only lay eggs 5 or 6 times a week not every day and u feed the hens 6k everyday 6,000 x 30= 180,000 and u make 8750 a day for 5 days rough estimate 8750 x 5 = 43,750 there is 4weeks in a month 43,750 x 4 = 175,000 . Pls how u get your profits or do hens lay 7days in a week? Thanks
adisabarber:

The basic mathematics I ask people that ask me how profitable my poultry business is to do is simple. I have 350 layers. I feed them 2 bags daily and they give me 10 crates of eggs daily which I sell for 750 per crate. 2 bags of feed is 6000 daily which they have been eating since like 15 weeks. Now, a farmer will not just say he's making profit of 1500 daily cos he needs to calculate all the feed he gave the hens before they started laying at all. By the time my hens stop laying, the money I spent on raising them till they started giving 10 crates will be realized from the sale of old layers. If people make so much profit from laying hens why will people still be selling old layers for 1200 and not just 500 naira to create space quickly? There is money in poultry business but it should not be seen as a get rich quick venture.

I mean the cost analysis because I just want to begin from the scratch, i.e. just want to get the land and all other things. And I will like to buy point of laying.

very good observation,l will never venture into this type of investment opportunity because:
1. The risk is higher
2. The expense is more than the gain.
Etc
