Sudan is a hotbed of radical Islam and its funny the government is accepting this offer. in the interest of national security, these youth should be recalled and deprogrammed because I'm sure they are already being brainwashed. saying they have to learn a quarter of the quoran already sounds suspicious.

Why only kano? Why not anambra or edo so that we will know that they don't have another plan than good studies, those ppl are boko haram that need to be train by ISIS, just watch them ,by the time they return they will bring north down with international terror. if you don't have facts, it's not by force to post. These guys are going to study and some of them will eventually jump to Dubai and Kuwait to work as professionals. So teaching Muslim youths the Qur'an is a bad thing abi?

I hope this will not lead to another shell of terrorism sha! Abi wetin concern medicine or engineering with recitation of Koran? My opinion though.

In his remarks, the Sudanese Consul in Kano, Sheikh Muhammad bn Othman el-Tayyeb explained that the scholarship was offered to deserving students from Kano to advance cordial relations between Kano state and Sudan.

He explained that the students would pursue degree programmes in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Medical laboratory Science, Islamic Law, Computer Science and Mass communication and at the same time learn Arabic in addition to memorizing at least one quarter of the Holy Qur’an.

In as much as there's nothing wrong with Nigerians going to other African countries to study on a scholarship from those countries, there are a few things I think are wrong with this move.

Shame on all past and present leaders who benefited from various government handouts but are failing to replicate that and telling today's youth to get busy, do something, think outside the box ( practically, "go kill yourself. We ain't helping you reach your dreams" )

Sudan is a country where lecturers in the varsities earn barely $600 dollars a month. The level of poverty is more sickening than nigeria yet they are offering "help" to Kano state.

Sudan that can't feed it own people, is here offering scholarships to foreigners, the motivated factor must be investigated and how come their (Sudanese) activities are always in the North?

The government of Sudan has awarded full scholarships to 91 indigenes of Kano state, to study various degree programmes at a public university in the country, the International University of Africa, Khartoum.

Already, 41 students have departed under first batch of the programme while the second batch of 50 students will depart the country from next Wednesday.

Addressing beneficiaries of the scholarship at the Government House in Kano, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the programme would go a long way in adding value to the effort of his administration to make the state’s economy knowledge driven.

The governor asserted that the initiative could not have come at a better time than now when Nigeria’s economy is facing challenges and the state government is finding it difficult to pay the bursaries of its students abroad.

He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries not to squander the precious opportunity but to be good ambassadors of Nigeria by devoting time to academic excellence and exemplary conduct.

“You have nothing to reward the government of Sudan but to pray for the progress of that county since it is from their public treasure that your education and welfare are being financed”, governor Ganduje urged the students.

Governor Ganduje expressed appreciation to the government of Sudan for sponsoring the education of students from Kano who have demonstrated exceptional potential to learn, noting that the investment in learning would yield plentiful results.
