Nigerian Tofu And Goat's Cheese by Onegai(f): 4:18pm On Aug 04, 2016 |
Hello! I read on a thread recently that tofu is made in Nigeriaby either Benue people or Northerners. That also made me wonder if goat's cheese is made here, as I know the Nigerian Dwarf goat is prized for its milk. So, does anyone know where it's sold, the local names of tofu and Goat's cheese. I'm in Lagos. Thanks. |

For anyone wondering, a Nigerian dwarf goat is the local short goat we are everywhere in the South. Its milk is sweet and creamy and safe for lactose-intolerant people and it has a higher nutrition value than cow milk. It is easier to digest than cow milk as well. 1 Like

Onegai: My grandma's neighborhood used to make cheese from milk obtained from all domestic 4 legged herbivores. By the way, this was in Ilorin and I don't think it is hard to come by if you want. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Hi Dominique I was posting on the Newborn thread in Health section and the Antispambot banned me. I've sent an email to the mods and I'm being ignored. Could you take a look? I didn't violate any rules, I was replying on getting something for her baby. Thanks. |

Onegai-chan, konbanwa. It's called "Wara". Some add cheese to stews as protein substitutes for beef. It's common among the Beninoise too. 5 Likes |

firestar: Arigatogozaimasu! I'll keep an eye peeled out for it. Though it has become expensive to eat healthy. Nigeria, always looking short term and never thinking long term. All the cheap shortcuts for food will lead to an ageing population who will nees even better healthcare. And we are not fixing that in the next 7 years. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Onegai: You will get wara at Okafa bus stop, Mowo bus stop all along Badagry expressway. You can get the local dwarf goat at Ikogha, off Mowo along Badagry expressway. I just killed my African dwarf goat that I bought from Ikogha. I hated killing it. It was so hairy and lovely. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Onegai: In areas like Kwara and Kogi, it is called 'wara. And it is made from cow's milk, too. |

There's the awara made from goat milk and there's the other one made from soya milk. They all are nutritious. I can teach you the soya milk awara if you are interested. 1 Like |

I believe Tofu is Beske here in south western Nigeria. It's cheese made from soya. It's hawked on the streets. And Goat cheese can be gotten from Fulanis that sell cow cheese, yoghurt (Fura da nunu). They're Nomad Fulanis and usually have settlements in every city (mostly outskirts). |
