Context: I'm a US/UK dual national who has lived in each country for over 15 years.

I feel more free in the United Kingdom for the simple reason that I'm not tied to my job by my need for health care. I get health care whether I have a job or not, rich or poor. This makes it MUCH easier to strike out on my own and be an entrepreneur.

I also feel more free because so few people, including the police, are armed. In the US, if you annoy someone even by accident, you risk them just pulling out a gun and shooting you. The only defense you have against this is to carry your own gun and pull it first -- not a great state of affairs. In the UK, the chances that a minor disagreement escalates into a shooting are effectively nonexistent. Also, the British police don't perform sidewalk executions for the crime of being mentally ill or in diabetic sugar shock.

Finally, I feel more free because my rights are protected by the European Convention on Human Rights, which is considerably more strict than the United States Constitution.

The UK is far better than the U.S. The U.S is just too razz and thugery for my liking. Its in the U.S where someone will just enter a supermarket and start killing people, claiming he was inspired by a video game. The U.K is more saner and more crime free than the U.S and better in every aspect you can mention except social life.

I prefer the UK for the simple reason of security. Life is far much precious than anything you can think of, and I think the first poster aptly summarised the reasons, the chief of them being "police brutality" and street gangsterism. Ordinary Americans are easygoing people and very receptive, but the trigger-happy idiots and psychos masquerading as security agents, takes that shine away. Living in America as a black man entails 40% of your right to life is dependent on the senility of the average American security agent, while praying that you aren't caught in a criminal or gang related crossfire. Aside this, I don't see how else the UK is better than the US.

And the funny part's , while citing "street gangsterism" etc as a motivation, the police killings are far from and rhyme or reason. They're motivated by all sorts of sadistic, petty whims that you wonder where all their true-blue honor's evaporated too now. I don't wonder why black kids get all hickey on sighting the cops now.

For so many reasons I wouldn't want to discuss now, I will take my Ole US over UK anytime and any day. I agree about the gun violence in US and that's the effect of the 2nd amendment . About the health care. I have what we call 'Caddilac Healthcare' which is the cream de la cream of healthcare through Blue Cross/Blue Shield which covers me fully anywhere in the Western World. The best health care service in the world where you don't have to get a number to see a specialist. So many more to say about America but will leave it alone for now.
