Ignite Africa is a VOLUNTEER DRIVEN social impact non-governmental organization, with a simple mandate to build lifetime Readers, who become intellectually rich, enough to envision self and social development, while holding excellence and integrity as core values to become great leaders of society in their chosen fields.

Within a year of our reading intervention programs (started 2015), we have established over 50 book clubs and Book-To-Child connection groups across 8 schools in Lagos State, 12 schools located in 4 remote villages in the Onelga region and Bonny Island of Rivers State, Nigeria. These projects would not have existed or been as successful as they have been without the help of our Igniters. They have truly ignited these areas and these children. They are our champions; they champion our cause!

The organization will be recruiting volunteers for her Book/Reading programs . These are outstanding opportunities for young individuals, passionate about making a difference to volunteer and contribute to a social change project in Nigeria.


Who can Volunteer?

Volunteers may fall into any of these 3 categories:

1. Working class professionals who can spare 1 hour every Wednesday (or every other Wednesday) for 40 weeks between October 2016 and June 2017.
2. Entrepreneurs/ Undergraduate students, who manage/run their own businesses and have flexible schedules.
3. Corps members serving in Lagos who can spare 1 hour every week for 40 weeks between October 2016 and June 2017.
Note: Experience from previous projects and previous/current work with children and teenagers will be an added advantage.

Prospective Volunteers should:

1. Be Passionate about education, reading, teaching leadership, entrepreneurship and social change.
2. Possess great interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with people (especially kids) of diverse cultures, religious beliefs etc.

Implementation Locations:

This project will be implemented in the following areas and volunteers will be posted based on proximity.

Jibowu / Yaba
Maryland / Ikeja
Ojota / Oregun
Program Duration

A complete academic session, 40 weeks. (from September 2016 – June 2017)

Time commitment

Each reading partner or volunteer spends an average of 4 hours a month (1 hour per week) working with our student members.

Volunteer Work Location

Assigned school based on the programme and the location selected by volunteer
