I have always used " as I said . " But I 'm seeing and hearing more and more people using " like I said . " Which is correct? Or is it one of those phrases that are becoming more acceptable , like " You ' ve got mail. "

...Over to the grammarians in the house.

Like I said is more correct.
You cannot be too sure unless you can prove it genuinely.

Because many people are using like I said doesn't mean that is it Grammatically correct. Thanks anyway.

They are both correct though "Like I said" sounds more appropriate!

They both refer to what was said earlier.

When you write "as I said" and fail the answer in an exam, then that's when I will explain it to you genuinely.

"as i said" is the correct grammatical expression. "as i said yesterday, john got a new ride" "as" describes what was said in the previous conversation. You cannot say "like i said" that is grammatically incorrect. "like" can be a verb and also a preposition, therefore it cannot come before another noun "i" here in Nigeria, people are used to grammatically incorrect sentences unfortunately, because for them, thats what they grew up learning, saying and or hearing

Lol, for your information, both are Grammatically right. But as I said is formal and like I said is informal. Do your research properly and thank me later...Have a good day dear.

Thanks for this elucidation, I totally agree with you. I grew up hearing people saying like I said but I later found it to be an informal phrase. This happened many years ago;but still many scholars are still using like I said.
