A can of worms is waiting to be opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, who alleged that there were some shady deals involving the Olympic team’s train­ing programme in Atlanta, USA and the scandalous flight arrangement to Rio Bra­zil for the Summer Games.

Also included is the country’s football team being stranded for several days at their training base in Atlanta, USA, be­fore they finally made their way to the Olympics in Brazil.

Dalung, also revealed that the 4,000 dol­lars allegedly paid by team captain, Mikel Obi at their hotel when the team was held hostage by the hotel management over unpaid bills, was part of blackmail by the Olympic team’s leadership against him.

He claimed that he refunded the 4,000 dollars to Mikel to stem the bad press the issue was attracting.

It is expected that after the Rio Olympics a high-powered probe will be initiated by the minister to uncover the truth behind the drama, which caused Nigeria interna­tional shame. The Nigeria team only flew into Brazil barely seven hours before their opening match against Japan.
