TSCN 1
Tragedy strunk on me which triggered my
dad to quickly run into his room to get his
car key-- but he couldnt find it even though
it was on top of the table in his well
furnished room, after a fruitless search, he
later saw it-- as my mum and siblings
shouted my name like basic 3 students
would pronounce a new word after their
English teacher. My dad which was just
wearing a short and a singlet-- since he was
just reading THE NATION newspaper, in
front of the TV which was turned to
CHANNELS STATION, after a hectic day at
work-- paced out of the house running
towards the garage as he pressed the
unlock button of his car key which opened
his VENZA TOYOTA WAGON--with plate
number ENUGU, AGG11-PTN. He almost broke
the handle of his car as he dragged it open,
got in and quickly put the car in motion and
drove to the entrance of our two storey
building where my immediate elder sister
who carried me from the spot where i was
vomitting blood to the back seat of the car.
My mum quickly told my immediate junior
sister to take care of the kids who were
already crying--even though they really dont
know the gravity of what was happening,
they just had to cry since the whole house
were crying. With my mum at the back seat
with me and my elder sister sitting close to
my dad, my roared ''MUSA, OPEN THE SLATE''.
Even though this would have cause a
laughter on a normal day, there was no
room for any joke and despite dad's
grammical construction and structure was
wrong, Musa lucidly understood dad's
message as he quickly opened the gate
wide and it took a miracle that he, Musa,
wasnt hit because Dad drove like the car of
arm robbers pursued by the Police. My dad
horned at the entrance of NOLA HOSPITAL--
which was close to our house-- but there
was no response, Dad continued to horn
but the gateman who was fast as sleep
woke up and display his little gun to all the
four cardinal point-- North,South,East,West--
but he soon realised it wasnt the armed
robbers who invaded the hospital in his
dream. He quickly opened the gate and
angrily poured out insults on my dad and
my dad came out and was on a move to
show this stupid gateman a lesson of his life
but the gateman saving grace occured as he
pointed to the noticed board, my father who
was already holding the gateman's shirt--
with his hand far-streached to give the 'the
big show's punch'-- dropped him like a
large bag of cement and quickly adjusted his
glasses to look at the notice which read...

TSCN 2
...FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH HAS SHUT
DOWN THIS HOSPITAL--NOLA HOSPITAL--
INDEFINITELY FOR HER SUB-STANDARD
EQUIPMENT WHICH LED TO THE DEATH OF THE
SON OF DELTA STATE COMMISSIONER OF
WORKS. Even though it took dad few
seconds to read this,it took ages for him to
understand. Dad's anger rose, thought of
unleashing the anger on the gateman rose
again as he caught hold on him again but
somehow the gateman escaped dad's trap
again because as dad caught him again, he
heard mum voice shouting ''BEST, JUNIOR IS
NO LONGER BREATHING'' and this brought
dad back to the reality of his present
problem as he headed straight for the car
with the gateman continually saying 'OGA,
ABEG NO VEX' with his eyes closed and his
voice faded as dad zoomed off.
Just then, 6:00pm news came on radio
which made matters worst, the news gave a
Breaking News that Government Doctors,
PHCN, and Petroleum Marketers have gone
on strike. So there was no light, no fuel for
hospitals to power their equipment but
thanks to God since dad has bought litres of
fuel the previous dad but the problem lied in
seeing an hospital thats opened since the
ones we passed were closed. Dad was
driving with full speed but to no destination
and dad thought out loud,''WHERE DO WE
GO'', Just like a flash, my sister, Afoke, yelled
''DAD, OUR FAMILY HOSPITAL''. ''YOU CORRECT
MY ANGEL'', what was i thinking not to think
that. Now we had a destination just few
minutes before we turned into the close of
our family hospital, We encounter a group
dressed in black, the police. A lanky
policeman gave a sign for dad to stop and
dad slowly came to a halt but before the
policeman could utter a word, Dad quickly
said, '' MY SON IS DYING'', even though the
police force lacked compassion, this lanky
one was forced to get one as he saw dad's
eye was so clouded with tears. ''GO GO GO''
he said ''YOU BE BAD MARKET''. Dad was
mildly excited as his graficator indicated he
wanted to turn right into the close which
had the hospital in the end. Dad continued
to horned from afar and he wondered if the
gateman was sleeping but as he was few
steps away, the gate automatically opened--
dad then remembered the gate was
automatic.
We arrived at ST. THOMAS HOSPITAL, EKPAN at
ABOUT 6:35PM as my mum rushed me
passed the reception of the hospital and
headed towards the EMERGENCY UNIT where
Dr. Steve was coming out from. Dr. Steve
asked ''WHAT WRONG MRS. OKORO'' as he
took me from her and lied me on a bed in
the unit. ''WE DONT KNOW, HE WAS
VOMITTING BLOOD...'', mum explaination was
interrupted with ''JESUS'', from Dr. Steve
who has placed his stethoscope on my
chest, ''YOUR SON IS...
