A schoolboy aged 13 has become one of Britain's youngest fathers, it has been reported.

The boy, from Manchester, was "chuffed to bits" after his 16-year-old girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl this week, the Daily Mirror said.

His father told the paper: "My son is mature for his age and will make a good father. He will make a better dad than most 25-year-old men would."

The young couple's identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons. They are said to have been in a relationship for some time, although they did not go to the same school.

His father added: "He isn't bewildered about about what has happened. He was a bit shocked at first but now he's chuffed to bits."

Earlier this year another 13-year-old, Alfie Patten, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, was believed to have become a father after his 15-year-old girlfriend conceived. But, DNA tests later showed that another 15-year-old was the father.

Britain has the worst teenage pregnancy rate in Europe, with an estimated around 43,000 teenage mothers created in England every year.

This latest case comes after new measures to deal with teenage pregnancies announced by Gordon Brown this week. He said teenage parents on benefits would be forced to live in "supervised homes" instead of being given council houses.

"It's time to address a problem that for too long has gone unspoken: the number of children having children," he declared.

In 2007, there were 42,918 pregnancies among under-18s.

The boy's father should be publicly flogged. grin

DNA Tests Show 13-Year-Old Not Father of Baby Born to Girl, 15

The results, revealed in high court last month and made public Monday, showed the father is 15-year-old Tyler Barker, who lived near baby Maisie's mother Chantelle Steadman in Eastbourne, southern England, AFP reported. Barker was 14 when Steadman became pregnant.

Five more boys in Eastbourne, East Sussex, also said they slept with the girl.

The story of Alfie, who was initially believed to have fathered a baby when he was 12, has renewed calls for Britain to get its teen pregnancy epidemic under control.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said previously he was worried by the story and that the government did all it could to prevent teenage pregnancies.

Alfie, who is also from Eastbourne, was "extremely distressed" when told he was not the father, according to court documents.

supposed to be a rebuttal of the original post?

If yes, then you must have missed the following from the original post.

@Afam

LOL Rebuttal Noooooooo,

I thought it was the old one, I was just given an update. I only read the headline.

Well if its time for 13 year olds to have kids, good for them. At least they know what life means at a very young age.

Am not really suprised though Afam, teenage pregnancy is a common site in Britain, they are everywhere, and believe me somehow they get along, with family help and social securities, they do just fine.

Britain I still believe is one of the greatest countries in the world judging from its social security system.

It is one country where you can walk into a hospital at any time and get treated without paying a dime.

No wahala.

In fact they should send some of these 13 yr old parents to Nigeria for just 1 year and I bet they would not want to play with sex until they are close to 30 years.

It is actually a shame that people still die from simple ailments just because of the state of the health care system and of course poverty.
Re: Schoolboy Becomes Father At Just 13 by Ikomi(m): 6:57pm On Oct 05, 2009
Well nothing in life is perfect.

But still at that, the state of the health care system is only comparable to what you get in Germany, Japan, France, Sweden, US, Switzerland, Australia.

And it is still Govt. run.

You cant halp but say someone is at least doing 70% of his job right.
