The largest celebration of food, drinks, music and culture in Africa has come to roost in Nigeria! Attracting thousands of passionate visitors and media frenzy, the Lagos International Food and Drink Festival will hold from October 14-16, 2016 at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island – Lagos, coinciding with the World Food Day celebrations.

Entry is free. For more info about the festival, www.lagosfoodanddrinksfest.com

Announcing the hosting of the festival in Lagos at the weekend, Mr. Ike Steve, Festival Director posited that “As a brand, Nigeria resonates with international audiences well beyond its actual square footage – our music, our speak, our creativity, our food, all continue to grab global attention. The Nigeria International Food & Drink Festival was inspired by this audacious, pervasive cultural energy that has translated into the bold flavours of our cuisine and the pungent, heady sensibilities of our spirits. And now, rising from a massively intensive thinking and planning, the inaugural NIFDF promises to be Nigeria’s biggest food and drinks event!”

The festival is billed feature a wide array of exciting activities including: Indigenous cuisine and drinks sampling from over 60 Nigerian ethnic groups, Various Competitions – Cooking, Music, Dance, Eating, Drinking, Live musical performances renowned Nigerian artists, Live Comedy Shows, Food Art Exhibition, Dance performances by cultural troupes, Chef masterclasses, Children’s fun activities, Wine tasting, Seminar on Food and Nutrition, SMSE match-making breakout sessions, Exhibition and sales bazaar, The FoodFest & DrinkFest ,Co-celebration of the World Food Day, and the Nigeria Food and Drink Industry Award Dinner. The festival will involve over 80 participating corporate and more than 10,000 visitors over the 3-day duration.

According to Ike, “Nigeria has long had events with global reach that celebrate our music, films and fashion, even our folklore, so we thought, why not showcase our gastronomic ingenuity and boost commerce and tourism while we’re at it by adding to our ever impressive list of Nigerian festivals…. And voila! The Nigerian International Food & Drink Festival was born”

“On a nationalistic front, this event, when evolved to its true potential, will bolster the business behind the food industry in Nigeria. Think of the generation of increased economic activity for the chefs, caterers and culinary gurus who participate, the restaurants, hotels and eateries that house them, and the amazing spin offs it would create for local suppliers of goods and services to the food industry. Now expand the horizon of your thinking to what this means when we introduce global exposure to the product. The world will understand that Nigeria is so much more than her current stereotype, – this benefits our tourism product, increase our exports of both goods and services and help generate much needed foreign exchange”

Herein lies the genesis of the Nigerian International Food and Drink Festival – a 3 day celebration of the finest food and drink Nigeria has to offer. According to Ike, “in support of the World Food Day objectives, 5% of all proceeds from the event shall be applied towards purchasing food supply for donation to Internally Displace Persons (IDP) camps. This gesture is in line with our corporate social responsibility and the ideals of the World Food Day”

For visitors, it is 2 days of diverse, all-inclusive gastronomic exploits, plus a weekend to indulge in a lifestyle where your biggest decision will be – how do I pick which activity to attend? Visitors will include Everyone interested in food and drinks – consumers, bulk buyers, Distributors and buying agents, Producers, purchasing personnel, suppliers, hotels and restaurants, financiers, etc.

For organisations looking to get their brands, products or services in front of the most qualified audiences and across the Nigerian food and drinks ecosystem, the Lagos International Food & Drinks Festival offers an exceptional and affordable platform to achieve these aims. Exhibitors include every player in the food, drinks and hospitality ecosystem – from manufacturers and producers to retailers and merchants; hoteliers and restaurants to financiers and government agencies.
