The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Sule Kazaure, has said that the pre-mobilisation workshop held in Ibadan would provide an opportunity for the corps’ management to interface with all the stakeholders in order to face the present and future challenge of the service scheme.

Kazaure spoke during a four-day 2016 Batch B Pre-Mobilisation Workshop of the NYSC, which was held to maximise corps members’ potentials and meeting grassroots stakeholders in the education sector. The theme of the workshop was, ‘Overcoming the challenges of the NYSC mobilisation process: The Role of Stakeholders’.

Kazaure said, “The workshop provided a forum for the NYSC management and all stakeholders to interface and review the past activities with a view to finding solutions to the challenges that might have arisen in the previous mobilisation exercise and other associated problems.

“It also provided a platform to initiate measures for ensuring a hitch-free mobilisation and deployment of youths for the mandatory national service.”

The NYSC boss recalled that a major initiative of the scheme aimed at improving on the mobilisation exercise was the complete computerisation of the process, saying that the initiative had helped in speeding up the mobilisation process.

He, however, said that despite the achievements recorded with the information and communication technology initiative, there was still room for improvement.

The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who delivered a speech at the workshop, called on the management of NYSC to continue to expand the frontiers of the service scheme to meet its current and future challenges.

He said, “As you are aware, the present situation in our country demands the active participation of all as the government strives to revitalise and revamp our economy. You must not rest on your oars, but rise to the dynamics of the society for the development of our youth, who look up to you for direction,” he added.

The governor also commended the management of NYSC for bringing the workshop to the state, while calling on the participants to explore the opportunity offered by the workshop.
