Rivers state teachers to shut down schools due to seven months unpaid salaries
Rivers State teachers union have made their grievances known by threatening to shut down schools due to the negligence of the government towards their unpaid seven months salaries. The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Rivers State Wing, revealed this in a communiqué after its State Executive Council meeting during the weekend.

In a statement, the NUT state Chairman, Mr. Nkpogone Dumnataah and the Secretary, Dr. Okechukwu Nwachukwu, said the union came to a resolution that members of the union will be called out of the classrooms if the situation remains the same 24 days after resumption. The union urged its members to go ahead and resume academic activities as the session begins on Wednesday, but if the government refuse to attend to their demand within the period stated ealier, they vowed to stop academic activities.

Being a teacher in Nigeria is cruelty. The people look down on you, the government pay you less and yet want a better tomorrow for their children.
