Boko Haram attack village in northeast Nigeria, kill two, burn houses. According to Associated Press (AP), one Abbas Gavi of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) said the Islamic extremists came to the village of Tallari before dawn Monday, September 19. He says they slit the throat of village chief Ba’ Lawan and his son, then set their home and others on fire.

Controversy trails attack on church Then they opened fire on fleeing villagers, killing two people and injuring others. Tallari is near Chibok, the town from which the extremists kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls in April 2014. Dozens escaped on their own but 217girls remain missing. Boko Haram has said it will swap the girls for detained extremists but the government says negotiations have faltered as the group suffers a leadership struggle.

The latest attack by Boko Haram within the northeast comes on the heels of earlier reports of similar raids by the insurgent group. Earlier reports suggest that Boko Haram militants killed not fewer than six people in an ambush on a military escort in Borno state just there were reports of attacks near Chibok. According to a statement by army public relations officer, Colonel SK Usman on Monday, September 19, the terrorists were searching for food when they ambushed troops of Operation Lafia Dole escorting vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri, at Sanda general area of the state.

Prior to this, the Islamist had carried out an attack in Borno state on Sunday, September 18; the attacks were carried out using bicycles. The attack happened shortly after morning service on Sunday in Kwamjilari village, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) east of the town of Chibok, in Borno state. Following the raid, 8 people were reportedly killed, however, emerging developments suggest that the death toll might have increased.
