Apple is reportedly planning to introduce “Spoken Editions” of popular media publishing websites and news. “Spoken Edition” will be available under the Podcasts section of iTunes and provide users with an option to listen to an audio version of a site’s written content.
A leak suggests Spoken Editions will be supported by WIRED, TIME, Forbes, Bustle, Ozy, Playboy, TechCrunch, and a few other publications at launch.
Most of the Spoken Editions podcast of the above publications were done by SpokenLayer. Spoken Edition podcasts will also feature audio ads, with the revenue being split between publishers and SpokenLayer.
Every podcast from different publishers will sound different to ensure that every publication’s voice and style remains unique.
“We make sure Wired sounds like Wired and any other publication sounds like those publications. The voice and style of any brand is in its writers and the reporting it does. That’s unique for every publication, and that uniqueness is honored,” adds Mayo.
Apple is expected to start rolling out Spoken Editions from early October.
