An Open Letter To Wife Beaters - A Poem by RoastedCorn(m): 7:25pm On Sep 26, 2016
Wife Beater

Don't you remember when you paid her
bride price,
She did nothing but commit her lifetime
to you,
But it's all been built on lies,
You didn't love her,you were just
looking for someone to call wife.

It isn't her fault that you took hits on the
stock market,
But she'll be there,when all's low,
It isn't her fault, the recession caused
you to lose your job,
But she'll be there, when all seems lost,
And all she's ever wanted was a
modicum of your love and acceptance.

You're a wife beater,
Saying she brought bad luck,
That she's responsible for your
misfortunes,
And that things will get better with her
out of your life,
Well you're wrong.

Does it make you feel good?
Knowing that there's a punching bag
waiting just for you,
After squandering the little you have on
booze,
You come home and beat her black and
blue.

Coming home and throwing up on the
couch,
But she'll be there to clean your mess
up,
Change your clothes,
Even though it's two o'clock.

She is not Mike Tyson,
But she takes every punch you throw at
her,
She ain't even Ali,
And she keeps holding on to the good
she sees,
She ain't even Luther King,
But she defends you, when social
services come knocking,
That it was 'just' some
misunderstanding,
And you're working to get past it,

Nobody forced you to get married,
If you know you are not ready,
So I'm saying think before you throw
that next jab,

Friends tell you it's normal,
That it's OK for a man to beat up his
wife,
The one he avowed to care for, come
rain come shine,

Well let me take you down the memory
lane,
When you both were young and fresh,
When you were still sane,
When she was the beauty queen who
stole your heart,
And she was plain Jane,

You swore to take care of her,
Laughing out loud,
Said she was elegant and intelligent,
That you'd be her hero,
It'd be the definition of your essence,

But you still go out there,
And you treat a strange woman like
she's some model queen,
If only you'd come to your senses,
Motor homocunlus,and treat your wife
the same way,
Just maybe your life would turn
around,

It's said,"behind every successful man,is
a woman",
I wish this stings you like the booze you
guzzle,
This is me making a stand,
An open letter to all wife beaters.
