How much respect does the Nigerian passport command? A new ranking has been released by Passport Index showing the nations with the most powerful passports.
The ranking puts Germany and Sweden at the top of the list, and according to Passport Index, the passports of both European countries passports can visit 158 countries without the need to apply for a visa.

Passport Index ranks travel documents by measuring the number of countries that can be visited without applying for a visa and the Nigerian passport is ranked 82nd alongside its neighbour Cameroon, with both countries only able to visit 44 countries without applying for a visa.

The least powerful passports according to the list are issued those of poor countries, especially in conflict. People of Afghanistan can only visit 24 countries without applying for a visa. Pakistan fares little better, with just 31 countries offering visa-free travel. Meanwhile the world’s newest country, South Sudan has a visa-free score of 36 countries.

South Africa was the highest-ranked passport in Africa. It ranked 46th in the world and grants holders access to 91 countries without the need for a visa.
