Muslims, Christians Kick Against Shi'te Building by tattedMONK(m): 6:00pm On Oct 07, 2016
The construction of a Shi’ite building in Kaduna us causing controversy in the area

– Muslims and Christians called on security operatives to stop the construction of the building

– The group said it has the right to continue with the building as it had all the necessary documents

Tension seems to be brewing in Saminaka, headquarters of Lere local government area in Kaduna state following the rejection of a new Shi’ite building by Muslims and Christians.

Daily Post reports that the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Muslims in the area kicked against the plan by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria to erect a building in the area and called on the government to stop bloodshed.

Pastor Oludare Ojo who is the head of the RCCG province wrote a letter to the Christian Association of Nigeria and security operatives calling for the stop of the Shi’ite building which is believed would cause tension.

The letter read: “This is to bring to your notice that the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, led by Al-Zakzaky are working on a building right in front of our Church, The Redeem Christian Church of God, Nassarawa, behind Post Office Saminaka.

“This project has been abandoned for over seven years. We believe this was due to the issue the Church raised against them in 2009.

“We are aware of an agreement reached between the Church and the group in 2009 (see attached), but due to the recent incidents in the country and the Shiites group modus operandi, we see their return as a big security threat to the Church and the community at large.

“We pray that the building project be discontinued since the Church building has been in existence years before their coming.

“We therefore call on you, the CAN chairman, to use your honourable office towards ensuring that the issue is urgently looked into to forestall unpalatable incidence that may occur in the future.”

Muslim clerics have also equally alerted security operatives and Sardinia Saminaka that some members of their communities were threatening to pull down the sect’s building.

Ibrahim Musa who is the spokesperson of Shi’ite said: “When we were worshiping with other Muslims, they said they don’t want us, that is why we decided to build our centre.

“The building is just an Islamic Centre. We have an Islamic school there in Saminaka. Just that some people who are against us, like Izaila, those Muslims who go to Saudi Arabia are the one against us.

“We have Certificate of Occupancy C of O. I cannot categorically say we have building plan from KASUPDA. We got an order today that the building should be stopped. I dont think any true Christian will be against us.”

Differences between Sunnis and Shiites muslim:

The origin of the Sunni-Shiite split:

The divide is traced to 632 A.D., when the Islamic Prophet Muhammad died and a debate emerged about who should be his successor.
Both sides agreed that Allah is the one true God and that Muhammad was his messenger, but one group (which eventually became the Shiites) felt Muhammad's successor should be someone in his bloodline, while the other (which became the Sunnis) felt a pious individual who would follow the Prophet's customs was acceptable.

Basically, their beliefs over who should have succeeded the Prophet Muhammad is the key theological difference between these two muslim sects.
Sunnis also have a less elaborate religious hierarchy than Shiites have, and the two sects' interpretation of Islam's schools of law is different. Shiites give human beings the exalted status that is given only to prophets in the Quran, often venerating clerics as saints, whereas Sunnis do not.

Population:

85 to 90 percent of muslims all over the world are Sunnis Shia constitute about 10 to 15 percent of all Muslims, and globally their population is estimated at less than 200 million.

Whereas Sunnis dominate the Muslim world, from West Africa to Indonesia, the Shiites are centrally located, with a vast majority in Iran, predominance in Iraq and sizable populations in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.
