Go watch The Kingdom of Heaven

Jerusalem has always been a battle ground for religion supremacy. But now, Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there while Palestine ultimately foresees the city as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally.

No one cares about Mecca!

Saudi Arabia allows Christians to enter the country as foreign workers for temporary work, but does not allow them to practice their faith openly. Because of that Christians generally only worship within private homes.[7] Items and articles belonging to religions other than Islam are prohibited.[7] These include Bibles, crucifixes, statues, carvings, items with religious symbols, and others.[7]

And for why there is a mosque in jerusalem?

Jerusalem was conquered and then became part of the caliphate.
The islamic caliphate.

There are several Mosques in Jerusalem.

In 2011, Jerusalem had a population of 801,000, of which Jews comprised 497,000 (62%), Muslims 281,000 (35%), Christians 14,000 (around 2%) and 9,000 (1%) were not classified by religion.[29]

Am yet to be convinced @olushesi because the Jerusalem I know is the city of God, and can't be conquered by the physical being except God wants it so.

Well, shocker. There is a Jerusalem the Bible tells you, and there is another in the real world. The Bible is not a history book.
Just curious, does God not reside in Kigali, Owerri or Ogbomosho? Why Jerusalem in far-away Asia?

Acts 27King James Version (KJV)

27 And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.

Italy was part of the caliphate; see history books and read.

And from independent.co.uk

As new wars and civil unrests seem to be flaring up every week, we look for the only countries in the world that could be considered ‘conflict-free’.

With the crisis in Gaza, the rise of Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria and the international stand-off ongoing in Ukraine, it can sometimes feel like the whole world is at war.

But experts believe this is actually almost universally the case, according to a think-tank which produces one of the world’s leading measures of “global peacefulness” – and things are only going to get worse.

It may make for bleak reading, but of the 162 countries covered by the Institute for Economics and Peace’s (IEP’s) latest study, just 11 were not involved in conflict of one kind or another.

Worse still, the world as a whole has been getting incrementally less peaceful every year since 2007 – sharply bucking a trend that had seen a global move away from conflict since the end of the Second World War.

The UK, as an example, is relatively free from internal conflict, making it easy to fall to thinking it exists in a state of peace. But recent involvement in foreign fighting in the likes of Afghanistan, as well as a fairly high state of militarisation, means Britain actually scores quite poorly on the 2014 Global Peace Index, coming 47th overall.

Then there are countries which are involved in no actual foreign wars involving deaths whatsoever - like North Korea – but which are fraught by the most divisive and entrenched internal conflicts.

The IEP’s findings mean that choices are slim if you want to live in a completely peaceful country. The only ones to achieve the lowest score for all forms of conflict were Switzerland, Japan, Qatar, Mauritius, Uruguay, Chile, Botswana, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Panama and Brazil.

Clearly, there have always been wars and conflicts, and it's a reality we wish never existed.

Some stopped a long time ago, some just stopped, some are on-going and some will start in the future.

And of course some are deadlier than others.

Only 11 countries are conflict free

There is rarely only on cause of conflict.

Causes are

opposing interests and capabilities (specific sociocultural differences and similarities between the parties),
contact and salience (awareness),
significant change in the balance of powers,
individual perceptions and expectations,
a disrupted structure of expectations,
a will-to-conflict.

It is aggravated by:
sociocultural dissimilarity,
cognitive imbalance,
status difference,
coercive state power.

It is inhibited by:
sociocultural similarity,
decentralized or weak, coercive state power.

It is triggered by:
perception of opportunity, threat, or injustice,
surprise.

And etc and the branches are many

It was not because of islam or a conquest that has happened long time ago.

Be more aware of it as a global conflict

Isreal or Jerusalem had been a conquered or dominated nation until 1948 when they regained there independence. Which triggered the Prophetic time clock aka ENDTIME. In this very generation, the Lord will come and deliver them from the antichrist. Israel has no known peace since they became a nation and that is what the prophecy says. UNTIL THE MESSIAH RETURNS.

Jerusalem has been conquered several times BUT it was because of the disobedience of Israel. And that was also the reason why he gave salvation to the Gentiles through JESUS CHRIST.
Nevertheless, God has promised to reconcile Israel back to himself at the return OF THE MESSIAH, JESUS.

This prophecy clock started ticking when Israel became a nation in year 1948. Since then, there has been rising and relentless agitation against Israel by majority of nations, which will eventually come to The brink and cause the prophesied MESSIAH to return physically with the saints (righteous believers) to destroy the antichrist and his bullish armies. And rule the world from Jerusalem for a 1000 years. Will you be there?

The Jews are currently waiting and wailing in ernest for the messiah's return.

With due respect, Allah shouldn't seal his mouth but has a god, he should try and win him over. Just as God won the persecutor of Christians Saul over and changed his name to Paul the greatest apostle of christ.
