Statement torn by Olisa Metuh not signed – EFCC

The trial of the former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh continued today, October 10 – The witness in the matter told the court the part of Metuh’s statement which was torn was unsigned. At the resumed hearing, EFCC investigator and Prosecution Witness 1 (PW1), Junaid Sa’aid during cross-examination by defence counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu told the court that sheet of the statement allegedly torn by the accused was not signed.

Sa’aid told the court that after Metuh had written his statement, he (Sa’aid) read it and took it his superior who also read it and instructed that he return it to Metuh to sign. He said Metuh signed the first two pages but when he got to the third page, instead of signing, he (Metuh) tore the page. He however said he did not take any statement from the defendant regarding the alleged tearing of statement. The PW1 also told the court that the accused did not chew or attempted to chew any part of his statement as reported in a section of the media. Also at the resumed hearing, another EFCC investigator and Prosecution Witness 2 (PW2) said the former PDP spokesperson tore the unsigned third sheet of his statement after which he demanded a new sheet to continue his statement.

The EFCC, thereafter closed its case while the matter was adjourned until November 22 for the accused to open defence. Metuh is also facing charges bordering on money laundering before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja He is accused of receiving N400 million from the office of the national security adviser, fund which the EFCC alleged was diverted for the 2015 presidential election campaign for PDP.
