We call them our future leaders
And yet they lead their lives
In reckless ways
How do you expect
Someone who leads
His own life astray
To lead others aright?

See them on the streets
Exhibiting varying degrees of madness
Wearing “crazy” clothes
Dancing to the tune
Of the madman's drum
Sagging all the way
Slaves of swag, servants of swagger

Irrelevancy of all irrelevancies!
The history of their country
They do not know
The example of great men
They do not follow
Rather, they prefer
To follow the trending craze

International news they do not read
Celebrity news they are addicted to
They are not interested
In shaking the world
Making impact is not their business
And yet they wail
That the country is not good

Thieves are robbing the country
Because those who should be guards
Are long asleep
Those that are not asleep
Are too busy trying to be crazy
Some too busy wailing
About the state of the nation

How long will they wail?
How long will they sleep?
When will they lead?
When will they change
All that is undesirable?
When will they abandon
The trending madness?

God save us
From madness and the mad
From leaders with no vision
From those whom tomorrow
Is ashamed of being associated with
From corrupt citizens
Who call the government corrupt
