For a generation of people constantly on the move, entertainment is swiftly changing from the conventional Television/ Radio shows and stage plays. This implies that smart production execs are thinking of ways to reach their target audience without being limited to a stationary medium. Enter, the world of web series! Although the concept of webseries is not new, Ndani Tv’s ‘Gidi-Up’ was the first one that gained prominence in Nigeria, pioneering the rise of the new trend. Better sponsorship, better cinematography and improved scriptwriting has opened up a new entertainment experience for Nigerians hungry for shows to occupy their time and make them laugh/cry/laugh-and-cry-simultaneously!

1. SKINNY GIRL IN TRANSIT

Skinny Girl In Transit follows the life of plus-size radio personality Tiwa. It shows her struggle with the pressures of wanting to be in a relationship and to be successful. The comedic drama series takes a look at her life with a mother who never fails to remind her about her single status, a sister who never forgets to remind her of her size, an ex boyfriend she doesn’t want to get over and a job that never seems to move forward. Season 2 takes us deeper into her career, with the arrival of a new boss and changes at the Radio station. Starring Abimbola Craig, Ngozi Nwosu, Kenneth Okolie, Sharon Oja, former Project Fame Winner, Ayoola, WFM OAP and actress, Bisola Aiyeola and Ini Dima-Okojie.

“Rumour Has It” follows the life of Obi Obi ( Uru Eke), a celebrity blogger and media personality who has made a name for herself as the queen of internet gossip and sensationalism. Obi becomes the subject of a massive scandal, setting off a series of events that disrupts her life as she knows it. Starring Uru Eke, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Toni Tones etc.

Starring Deyemi Okanlanwo, OC Ukeje, Somkele Iyamah, Adesua Etomi, Titilope Sonuga and Daniel Effiong.Written and Produced by Jadesola Osiberu.

4. ‘DAWN’ AND ‘DUSK’

Dawn follows the lives of young adults, struggling to manage the trials and tribulations of love and friendship. Dolapo ( Naomi Bankyu) is an undergraduate caught up in a very violent and aggressive relationship with the series protagonist, Ade( Peter Adesanya) – an internet fraudster who assumes basic control of Dolapo’s life because he provides for her. The show also stars Omotola Abudu as Alaba, Dolapo’s best friend; Gbohunmi Adeniran as Ife, Dolapo’s love interest; Thelma Okekeze as Nora, Ade’s “other” girlfriend; Anita Edwards as Tamara, Ade’s “business partner”; and Deji Onadeko as Dejo, Ade’s nemesis.

Dusk ( also known as Dawn Season 2) continues the story of ‘Dawn’ ,with new characters played by Nollywood actors like Alex Usifo, Jude Orhorha, Bella-Rose Okojie, Ikenye Oluwatomi, Bunmi Awolowo and others. Four of the principal actors were replaced with fresh faces but with the story-line remaining intact. Written, Produced and Directed by Anita Edwards.
