You now share this world with an untold number of Pokémon and people succumbed to an overriding obsession to catch ‘em all. This is the world that Pokémon GO has created. It’s a new app from The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Niantic Labs that’s become an overnight sensation. So read below if you’ve got no idea what’s going on.

What Are Pokémon? ”Pokémon“ is a combination of the words “Pocket” and “Monsters,” and you might remember them from the last time they sparked an international craze. The first Pokémon games were released in 1996 on the Game Boy, spawning numerous sequels, a card game, an anime and more merchandise than you can shake a stick at. Basically, the game takes place in a world full of Pokémon, monsters of various sizes that can be captured in tiny red balls and tamed by Pokémon trainers, who use them to fight. Yes, it’s a bit dark. The game casts the player as a young trainer on a quest to capture and train as many Pokémon as they can on their quest to become the best trainer in the world.
