Victory For All: AAU Management Succumbs To NANS' Pressure, Suspends Fees Paymen by akolo321: 9:01am On Nov 02, 2016
Following a meeting with officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, Edo State, has advised the 200l students of the institution to suspend payment of school fees. NANS compelled the management to take this option while negotiation continues.

AAU in a special release signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information/PRO, Mr Edward U. Aihevba, stated that, there was a plea by NANS that the school fees regime of the affected students be looked into.

It would be recall, President Aruna Kadiri, in pursuance of NANS charter for qualitative and affordable education for Nigerians following the hike of school fees visited the school where he held a meeting with the management.

Unfortunately, the over 5-hours meeting ended in a deadlock, as both parties stood their ground. NANS ably represented by President Kadiri insisted that the school fees should and must go back to STATUS QUO, while Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo also insisted, “the fees will not be reduced”.

The President who spoke on the urgent need to reduce the over 400% increment in school fees, after the meeting on Friday October 14th directed all affected students not to pay school fees until the ongoing discussion was concluded.

Meanwhile, some aggrieved students took to street in a peaceful protest, also insisting that the school fees should and must go back to status quo. Regrettably, in their own right, they were intimidated, arrested, teargassed and threatened. Responding to this ugly development, President Kadiri, called on fellow students to join him as he relocate NANS secretariat to the school in a solidarity protest.

As a committed leadership to the good of Nigerian students, Comr. Aruna Kadiri said, victimization of any student is unacceptable and will be resisted by his administration using every legal means available. “The right of every Nigerian student is a priceless jewel,” he added.

On Tuesday November 1st, following NANS notice to protest, a meeting was rescheduled. At the meeting, management finally agreed that while discussions are ongoing, the affected students (200l) are advised to suspend the payment of school fees for now, pending the final conclusion of discussions. Victory For All!!!

Though, we are not armed, but in our unity, we are “Unconquerable”. The School fees Should and Must Go Back To Status Quo.

Thank you.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
