Nigeria To Begin Rice Exportation - Prof. Bola Okuneye by Truth234(m): 3:24am On Nov 03, 2016
Prof. Bola Okuneye, an International Consultant, FADAMA III Additional Financing (AF), has said that Nigeria would begin exportation of rice in the next five years.

Okuneye spoke on Wednesday at Amanuke, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, when the FADAMA III AF team visited its rice farmland to ascertain level of progress at the site.

“I have carefully studied the development and I am convinced that with what I have seen, Nigeria will compete among other nations of the world in rice production.

“If only this community can produce 4.5 metric tonnes per hectare, compared to other assessment we have carried out in other states, then there is a lot of development in rice production in our country.

“I could see that with more encouragement, they can expand from the present stage and when they continually used the improved practices as they are taught, it will increase their yield.

Mr Okafor Hyacinth, the Ogboududu Cluster President said they were currently cultivating 90 hectares with 10 members in each hectare.

“Our last harvest was 2 to 3metric tonnes per hectare, but with the kind of training we are receiving, our productivity is going higher.

“According to the analysis of facilitators, we will produce 4.5metric tonnes in our next harvest.’’

Dr Ben Albert, the team leader, commended the farmers for their commitment, and assured them of addressing challenges they might face in the course of production.

He explained that the supervision mission was aimed at evaluating and ascertaining their progress and other challenges.

Let us be self sufficient first

Let the price of rice come down drastically before

Contemplating of exporting.

The one currently being sold at N23k or another one? So by the time its exported it may go for around N40k a bag. Nigerian rice will be one of the most expensive in the world.

This is a welcome development. It's just sad that Nigerians are not ready for the 'seeding' period on any issue. They just want to have it available and cheap at every instant without making the necessary sacrifices needed for such.

The foreign rice that we have gotten accustomed to, they also paid the rice initially for investment.

They have now turned us into a 'consumer' nation for their products and in the process causing upheavals in our forex system.

We can produce enough rice for the country to eat here in Nigeria and as such reduce the forex spent on rice importation.

If the PMB govt succeeds in actual sense in reducing the importation of petroleum products, wheat, flour and rice by 2018, the naira will definitely be stronger and they would have done very well.

Fellow Nigerians hungry for cheap rice, kindly exercise patience. This is a critical time in our nation building, and we must persevere to grow the local industry.

Serious rice revolution is happening in Agriculture from Anambra to Kebbi to Ebonyi to Niger, we must not throw in the towel at this time.

China that achieved self-sustenance in everything, didn't achieve it cheaply. There was a cost to it. China has a thriving local production for everything. They even have their own version of Google. We must as much as possible reduce our crave for foreign products and services if we want to indeed assert ourselves as an independent nation.

The other day, it was scarcity of rice. Another day, rice importation ban lifted. And today we are to start rice exportation. Which one do we believe?

If you want to hide something from the black man, just put it in writing. Just about everyone commenting on this first page obviously did not read even the first sentence of the report where it said 'in five years' before dropping their comments.
