The world of football has been left in shock ever since it was revealed Brazilian club Chapecoense’s plane, which had been travelling to Medellin for the first leg of their final of the Copa Sudamericana, crashed just outside of the city on Monday.

Players, fans and other key figures within the game have paid their respects over the past 24 hours, and Edinson Cavani did exactly that, too, when he revealed a shirt made in tribute to the Brazilian team after scoring from the penalty spot on Wednesday evening.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Angers 2-0 in Ligue 1 to move the French giants within a point of league leaders Nice and leapfrog AS Monaco. But Cavani’s celebration didn’t go unnoticed by the referee.

Regardless of the fact that just six of the 77 people onboard the fated flight survived, referee Frank Schneider still booked the Uruguayan for removing his shirt, despite it being in support of the victims.

Fellow Ligue 1 club Saint Etienne made a fitting tribute to Chapecoense – who were set to feature in their first ever Copa Sudamericana final – by adding the club’s crest next to the their own badge on their shirt.

But clearly the referee wasn’t happy to make exception to the rules and booked Cavani for revealing his personal message to the club’s victims and few survivors.

He deserve red card self cos their are more better ways he could have used to pay tribute, thought FIFA made it clear that any player involved in this kind of thing is to be given a life ban

Like tommy9 said, rules are rules. There is another way to show solidarity without taking off his shirt.
