Times Higher Education (THE) on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 announced the result of emerging economies university ranking. This ranking includes only institutions in countries classified as "advanced emerging," "secondary emerging" or "frontier", including the BRICS nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The ranking, according to the renowned magazine, is based on institutions' research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Out of the 300 universities listed, India and China were the main winners of the list. University of Cape town came 4th while the Wits took 8th position. Nigeria and Ghana are both categorized under the frontier economy. The topmost university in Ghana (University of Ghana) ranked 125th on the list while Nigeria's topmost (University of Ibadan) ranked 201-250.
