sweetilicious: Obviously the fire was caused by the generator because the fire started from the rear. Cars usually starts burning from the engine. Being a little bit careful can save a lot. |

From the severity and location of the flames, it looks like fire from an ignited can of fuel. Pity. |

rasojie: I saw it on my way back from school, there was a medium sized generator inside the car, I guess some fuel was left in it and that's what caused the fire 1 Like |

moshino: Impossible I should know better than that. Reason I said that is that a car going up in flames is not a random incident. Things on a car have to heat up to over 300 degree C for it to flash. You will smell things way before then and unless your mechanic worked/washed on your fuel filter and improperly replaced it(even with wrong filter) and you have fuel spraying on your catalytic converter or brakes cars won't go up in flames. If there was a ruptured fuel lines/tank in an accident or a car with engine misfire leaking engine oil over catalytic converter . The catalytic converter and brakes are the only part that gets hot enough to make plastic or rubber burn. Important to note your engine temperature should always be below 100C Will it will be wrong to ignore the probable cause and rather blame it on fate |

It's not burning in the engine side so it's probably from the back..maybe electrical sparks near or close to the fuel tank. |

iukpe:That Goes without saying, plus I must say,%30 of them sold in 9ja are fake, I have bought fake too, my car was on fire due to faulty gof light wiring,I press the craaap, nothing happened, pressure gone zero,I had to hold my nerves and use wet sand to dampen the fire, it was scary. This was meant to be a brand new never used fire extinguisher lol.I have since brought with me a proper one from abroad. |

The exhaust located right under the fuel tank should periodically be checked. Leakages could cause such a fire. So sorry. 1 Like |

Motorist should try not to overfill their fuel tanks this dry season..always leave some space. No fuel scarcity, when you are low on fuel there are many gas stations you can buy from. This is unfortunate. |

erico2k2: Seconded, a lot of people does not know the importance of the fire extinguisher. He could have saved the cars with just 3k, the price of a brand new fire extinguisher. |

unclemaths: Had this experience, my exhaust pipe broke due to a faulty rework by my auto welder, leading to the hot side blowing flames directly on my gas tank and under the panel behind the backseat, this was causing the rug in the car to melt but it was getting dark on a journey and raining too but i drove vigorously to get away from area i knew i didn't want to stop. Then I had to stop at a spot where some women sell meat and wine close to the river, because i had started to smell petrol. The heated parts started to burn as i came to a halt, I was already rehearsing for the worst, so I immediately turned off the engine, jumped out of the car (I picked my phones and wallet close to me as fast as I was leaving the drivers seat) The flames burst at first engulfing the rear of the vehicle, then it went under because the pump had stopped throwing our petrol into the flames. I opened the trunk, threw my stuff out as much as I could and as safe away from the car as I could, grabbed my fire extinguisher lay partly under the rear and pumped the extinguisher directly at the center of the flame as good as I could. This reduced the flames but didn't stop it, suddenly two other smaller extinguishers showed up from sympathizers who however were too scared to come close since it was clear the flames were coming from the fuel tank area. But the two extinguishers did the job and the women brought some water and old wine which we used to finish the smoking materials which had been heated and mostly melted. God and Courage the saving factors in any emergency. 3 Likes |
