They are both right, each of one them is viewing history through the prism of clan/self interest. Moremi can be either heroine or villain depending on which clan tells the story.

Olugbo is also right on the issue of Oduduwa being a stranger because this jives with both the Benin & Portuguese accounts, though he has resorted to ad-hominems by pointing out that the Ooni is not actually qualified to sit on that throne. Such arguments are not really relevant to the issues at hand.

Moremi had a strategy to liberate her people (Ife) from the incessant raids by the ugbo in masquerade-like costumes, this made them looked like super being . She went to River Esinmirin to pray and promised to sacrifice his son, Oluorogbo, to the river if she comes back.

During the next ugbo raid, Moremi surrendered herself to be captured and taken to ugboland. There she was married by the king for some years. She got to know the secret of these ugbo people and sneaked out one day back to Ife.

The following raid by the ugbo, Moremi had prepared her people (Ife) against the raid, the ugbo raiders were conquered and defeated. That ends the incessant raid by the ugbos on Ife land.

Ife is strategic place in the historical values of Yoruba people, how would someone in the place of King Obateru tell the Yoruba race not to celebrate the liberator (or liberatress if there is a place of feminizing) of the town, Ife?

Just like telling the Europeans not to celebrate Arthur Wellesley for conquering Napoleon Bonaparte at the battle of Waterloo, when France had almost got the whole of Europe to herself. Though France may not like him.

I will believe the betrayal part by moremi on the ugbos because it runs in their blood, Yoruba was founded by early Igbo farmers who migrated and settled in farmlands (ugbo) more than 800 yrs ago hence the name ugbo was derived, the ife pple should go to mecca and ask them the town oduduwa settled after his arrival to this part of the world but that was after Ugbo pple must have found and settled in Yoruba land.

Once in a while, argument of this sort is necessary to help us know history directly from royalties. Both king are right. To one, Moremi was a traitor and to the other- a warrior. But the middle line is: Ilaje people were the first settlers in Ile-Ife before Odua's arrival. Even the Ooni did not dispute that, no king in Yorubaland has ever disputed it. I'm Ilaje but that bickering is not what we need right now

Maybe, maybe not. The Yorubas so deified Oduduwa that they do not have a meaning or explanation for the name, but not the Edos. The Edos have/know the meaning of Oduduwa and can explain how the name came to be. No one is easily satisfied when his deep persuasion and interest is at stake.

Both of them are right. It all depends on the angle through which one sees it. Moremi is a traitor to Olugbo because she was the reason why his people fell to their enemy. On the other hand, to Ooni of Ife, Moremi is an heroine because she helped Ooni's people to win the war against their enemy. So She deserved to be respected.
