I am a QS student, and I can tell you categorically that quantity surveying is a very lucrative professional course and u gonna enjoy it. Though estate management is really good too, I won't advice you to choose urp. 7 Likes |

Take Estate Managment is equally good but not as good as Architecture, as an Architect take ESM, mores time I can work without URP n QNT sur. But u can can't do ESM duty. 2 Likes |

They are all in same faculty. Est mgt deals with valuation and management of land and landed property. It's very lucrative that's if u are connected . URP and architecture are similar just that URP deals more with planning of cities and drawing of plans. With estate mgt, u can work in any field of your choice. Bank, FIRS, ministires, you can also be self employed. 22 Likes |

As a civil engineer, I'll advice you go for QS. A lot of engineers are paid heavily to prepare bill of quantities. Even in my state's works ministry, Quantity surveyors are very much needed. Civil engrs have an added advantage preparation BOQs. 4 Likes |

If making money in private practice after school is what you have in mind go for Estate Management or QS. Those two professionals find it easier to make money on their own after graduation. Urban Planners do not find it so easy, but when they make it they make it big. Take it from a URP professional. 12 Likes 1 Share |

I would advice you invest more of your time to go know and meet people that matters cos at the end, when you have a degree, what will count is who do you know. Even if you study YORUBA and you know the right the people, you can be any of the 3 you mentioned. 3 Likes |

krebdawise: The king of them all is URP but you know in Nigeria it doesn't work that way. This is because The 1992 URPL decree is only invoked to demolish houses. Otherwise all LGA are expected to have a Town Planning Authority. I will suggest Estate Management because I've seen more people making it in that field within a short time. 6 Likes |

some of you who normally post these " I got admission here, I got admission there bla bla bla " did not get admission anywhere. some of you are graduates or undergraduates trying to know what people will say about your course so you can go and be arguing and making noise about your course being superior blablabla. now that you have asked and having varied opinion from different people, are you not more confused now? if you need a counseling, you know where to get it not here. Estate Management is the most lucrative course in the contemporary Nigeria. You will engage in real estate management and sales that gives money in millions when concluded. You will also engage in real estate valuation, appraisals, etc for banks and other corporate organisations including private individuals that wishes to take loans from the bank. Estate management is very vast because even as a student you shall take courses in accounting, statistics, building, architectural graphics, civil engineering, URP, finance etc. This is the same way the course is vast in practice. Architecture is good but it is no longer lucrative today because most individuals hardly go for professional architectural designer for their homes, they rather copy drawings and cut corners to avoid paying a professional architect. The same affects professional builders who have equally lost their careers to unskilled building workers most of them now come from Togo and Ghana and they do a good job at a cheaper price. URP is the worst of them all. Most times they languish in the government ministeries. They are involved in town planning scheme. Most of the times they don't go into private practice because there is no money in their profession and they have almost zero client base in the contemporary Nigeria. They do a lot of tedious drawings in school as students, these includes urban and regional drawings that takes weeks to complete. The course is hard to study and pays far too little at graduation that is if you get a job. QS is another useless course in the contemporary Nigeria. They dwell in costing analysis- the cost of building homes etc. How many times have you seen a successful professional QS? Because even individuals do not engage them for services when you can easily go to the market and get your cost or even make phone calls. If you want to become a millionaire even while in school go for estate management. You can close transactions in real estate that runs into millions even as a student. Then again during your IT, it is yet another opportunity to make it big before returning to your 5th year for graduation. 16 Likes 1 Share |

krebdawise:Quantity Surveying... You'll forever thank God you followed my advice. Did quantity surveying in my early days, switched to building technology when my QS teacher was teaching me nothing.. . Today, I dey curse my teacher for making me change that course... You can work anywhere in the industry as a QS...and their pay is beautiful with less work... And when they Strom the site, they can condemn anything... Ask for variation and ... See, forget it...that's the deal... 6 Likes |

Call07034780891:anyone can do ESM duty...in fact, even the layman! The draughtsman and any building technologist with an AutoCAD will eat like an architect... Caretakers are what we call ESMs...anybody can become a real estate mogul even without going to school... Surveyors too have many unschooled people eating their job... But a QS?? Forget it...they are in demand in every section of the industry and are few!!! 3 Likes |
