Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief THE Federal Government is set to abolish the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, regarding the 41 items exempted from foreign exchange market in its newly released 2017 Fiscal Policy Roadmap The policy document prepared by the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, will, instead, come up with fiscal measures to reduce pressure in the parallel market.

According to the document, the FG “will replace administrative measures on list of 41-items with fiscal measures to reduce demand pressure in parallel market.”

There is a fundamental lack of logic in the way our currency market operates. The CBN sells forex to banks at 'x'; the banks then sell same forex to BDCs at a profit, lets say, 'x + y', where 'y' is profit. The BDCs then sell forex to consumers at 'x + 3y'. This defies logic and so long as status quo is maintained, people would continue making billions from round tripping, and corrupt politicians would continue receiving bribes with forex bought from the unregulated black market.

President GMB needs to address this problem. So long as there is an unregulated black market, Nigerians would keep buying forex at prices determined by BDC operators.

The problem with Buharis is that he always has his eyes on other people money from MTN to our bank accounts and now he wants to help diasporans spend their hard earned money too in a bogus scheme that would steal diasporan money and still not provide any home as usual....You would also note that this economic plan as usual doesn't contain any attempt to reduce overheads associated with opulent earnings of the political class

Very confusing indeed. Summary is that most of d dollar in circulation was money diaspora. Buhari did a lot of command and control tricks and people stopped sending money home. Y send money to Nigeria and I get official rate in Naira while CBN keeps dollar. We used to get 20 billion dollars and rising annually. What kami is saying is they want them to keep sending money but it is for a home scheme? Do they live here? The choice on what they plan to do here should be their business. The grammar sef plenty. Just trying to make sense of it all

We were trying to reduce importation but now we are trying to be self sufficient, improving infrastructures ad what have you. How do you actualize this when you are broke and they still keep remmiting your money.
