The Anambra state government has restated its resolve to be sufficient in food production and export more agricultural products by next year. This was stated on Tuesday during the Press Week and Award Ceremony, organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra state council at the Godwin Ezeemo Press Conference Centre, Awka, the Anambra state capital. The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who made this assertion, noted that recently, the state had recorded tremendous growth in agriculture and increased its production in rice cultivation, adding that the present 200,000 metric tons would not be enough for the state. Governor Obiano, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, stated that the present administration was ready to partner any investor or investors who had distinguished themselves to move the state to a greater heights. Governor Obiano said the state had provided enabling environment for businesses to strive, saying the obsession of the present administration was to strengthen the state’s economy irrespective of the present economic recession. The Governor disclosed that his administration would continue to tightening security and other sectors of his administrative blueprints, urging the people of the state, especially those in diaspora to come home for yuletide and as well invest in the state. He therefore urged journalists not to be bias in their reportage, but to report with facts as they are the hope of the masses. Highlights of the event were presentations of papers from different guest speakers.
