I think MTN has done more good to this country than bad, so why the so much hatred on MTN by Nigerians and even some of the scholars who are direct beneficiaries of the company's returns...??
It would be recalled that during the period (about november last year) when the heavy fine was imposed on the company, many Nigerians where clamoring for their complete dissolution in the country. Let us note that in just its sixteen years of existence in the country, MTN has not only created direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians, but has under the auspice of "MTN FOUNDATION" imparted in the lives of many Nigerians (ranging from health through education to empowerment programs) from diverse regions of the country.
One begins to wonder whY such hate has not been vested on other international firms such as shell, chevron, total, cocacola , and many more whose activities contribute to many physical and environmental damages in the country.(note that these firms have been in existance for decades before the arrival of our own MTN). Some opinion might argue that such aggression could not be far fetched from the fact that MTN 's business activities is on direct linkage with its subscribers which in turn brings about direct monitoring of the services. And as a result any little effort made by the company to alter her mode of operation is tagged by Nigerians as a means of defrauding them (it is not uncommon to hear an average nigerian shouting "MTN na Thief". which literarily translate to "MTN is a Fraud) even though majority don't really understand the Nature of telecommunication industries. What would one say of the financial institutions such as First bank of Nigeria Plc. which also deals directly with its customers? Another obvious reason for the acclimated hatred could be the notion that MTN is not an indigenous firm and the immediate response is, what have we made of the indigenous firm whose line of business is similar to that of MTN (Such as GLO nig.)?
Fellow Nigerians i indulge us all to oppose any negative utterances either on the cyber world or in our physical presence to our dear MTN.
Long live MTN Nigeria. #istandwithMTN.
Comments and critiques are highly welcome.
