I think that Bodhi means enlightenment. and a buddha is someone who is enlightened. Therefore a buddhist is someone who is seeking enlightenment.

what's the buddhist stance on a creator. I know a few of them don't believe in one.

just as Judaism was the mother religion to Christianity, Islam, Bahá'í and a handful of others Hindu is the mother religion of Buddhism, Jainism, Hare Krishna, Sikhism, Ayyavazhi and a handful of others.  This is what I referred to as similar religions (can also include Taoism, Confucianism, Shinto, Zoroastrianism)

below are some links the first 3 compare all major world religions while the bottom 4 are more in-depth.  to describe them in depth here would take the whole page but basically while Hindu is a polytheific religion with a clear creation myth, Buddhism is the belief in a possible "god like entity/power" but that he is yet unknown to man.   "enlightenment" is the key to finding "god"/ conecting with god/discovering the true nature of the universe and is important to both religions.  Both believe in reincarnation and that your karma (think of it as a tally of your good deeds vs. your bad ones) determine your next life including in some subsections the species in which you come back as.  Both believe in an eternal afterlife like heaven.

not all Buddhists believe in a god like entity though

Siddharta Gautama, the Buddha, never said a word about an almighty Deity that anyone must worship.

He spoke only about liberation of the "self" from the cycle of birth and death, and attainment of enlightenment, or Nirvana.

The Buddha did not deny the existence of God outright but said that the question of His existence "tends not to edification."

Buddhism does not deny that there are Gods, but even the Gods bow to the Buddha, the enlightened one.
