Ejanla07:Wrong. 4 semi-autonomous communities. All tracing lineage to Nnewi and his brother. Otolo being the lead community, is not the eldest though. The descendants of Nnewi's eldest son are found in Umunneala,Umudim. They hold the Ofo Nnewi. @OP,the Igwe is not a "supreme" ruler. He can do very little without the concurrence of the other three Obis. His ultimate authority only extend to Otolo, his community. |

Dhugal: Mr you re wrong. The okoli family at umunealam umudim? There grandfather used to be the igwe of Nnewi The Obi of Nnewi Obi Okoli in1780s lost his throne when inside palace politics that hinged on tradition edged him out. Traditional royal law had it that the Crown Prince must perform the funeral rights of the late Obi before he can be crowned, Obi Okoli was absent and arrived home only after the late Obi Okoli 1st was buried. His Uncle (The late Obi Okoli the 1st younger brother) performed the funeral rights in his stead and took over as Igwe Nnewi he could not be enthroned as an Obi (which means the first son). The Obi Okoli royal lineage was forced into exile, they got refuge at Umune-Alam in Umudim, Nnewi where they still are to this day. The Obi Okoli family still bears the Ofor Nnewi till this day. Nnewi monarchy practice true federalism. Four town make up Nnewi and each town have its own obi Obi of. Nnewichi Obi of umudim Obi of uruagu Obi of otolo (being the eldest double as igwe) The igwe does not have jurisdiction outside his Otolo town. He can only liase through the obi of each community... |

Ejanla07:The second part of this comment, you got absolutely right.Nnewi has been a federation long before the Americans learnt what it means. As to the first, dude get off whatever it is you've been smoking. No offense. There had never been an Obi/Igwe named Okoli.Don't know where you got that nonsense Okpala abdicated for his brother,Digbo, cos he was a weak n ineffectual ruler, but his family retained the ofo. Digbo's sons were Otolo n Ikwuabor,,who today make up Otolo community, along with some latter day migrants. Nnofo it was that usurped his brother/nephew,Enem's throne, but that was down the line of Otolo's lineage. They form the Egbu Umuenem village in Otolo today.Hence,Igwe Orizu is 17th(or is it 20th) of Nnofo lineage. Please,if you know nothing of Nnewi history, try to find out, else you inadvertently try to rewrite our history. |
