At least 27 people died Saturday in two simultaneous suicide bombings in a crowded Baghdad market, the worst attack since October in the Iraqi capital just a few hours from New Year celebrations, a police source said. "There are 27 dead and 53 wounded," a police colonel told AFP. A previous report revealed 18 dead and 38 wounded. Two suicide bombers blew their loads on an early morning in the busy mid-wholesale market in Al-Sinek, right in the center of Baghdad. The latest major bombing in Baghdad occurred in mid-October when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the middle of a condolence ceremony in a Shiite neighborhood, killing at least 34 people.
