Pls someone should explain to me what a hackathon means?

A hackathon is a gathering where programmers collaboratively code in an extreme manner to reach a specified goal or purpose. Some can last as long as days. Though it's hardly done in Nigeria but some African countries do it to get who comes out best.

"Hacking Marathon" = Hackathon ... Simple as ABC i Guess.

in my own opinion, An Hackhaton is a an event, could be among your friends in your community or among your school mates, gathering to build something, almost anything from building a website together to, working on a raspberry pi project together to provide solutions. hackhaton is like hosting a party for the nerds. to come together and build something for the fun of it.

for example you may choose to host a facebook hackhaton event to build web application together at a location where you have all resources needed, for example a university computer centre, or a cyber cafe spot over the period of maybe a weekend. This is how hackathon benefits, you get the chance to challenge your self in a small team, at a short period of time, and working collaboratively and learn by doing.
