If anyone was in doubt about who the most sought-after music act in Nigeria at the moment is, such must have been dispelled with the unannounced arrival of Nigerian pop star and Sony Music act, Wizkid, at the venue of the Headies 2016 late last month.
Now, with just a number of tweets, Wizkid has set off a fire of unlimited excitement among his fans in Nigeria, Africa and beyond with the announcement of his music projects for 2017.
Wizkid began with “Locked in with my brother @wandecoal !! Mixtape this year!!!” before adding this: “Y’all getting “Sounds from the other side” first tho!! Ready to go! 2017 free smoke!!”
And since he has not released an album since 2014’s Ayo at the tail end of his contract with EME Records containing the now certified hit, “Ojuelegba”. With fans of Davido having turned against Davido online for lack of activity after sigining a deal with Sony Music, Wizkid is surely not about to let the same happen to him.
He has been busy on the road, racking up collaborations with Drake, Tinie Tempah, Chris Brown and carting home all the big awards on offer but he released the single, ‘Dad- d y Yo’ towards the end of last year.
For this year, he has promised fans a total of four mixtapes it is difficult not to understand the excitement of his fans.
He tweeted further: “4 mixtape’s 2017! With some of my amazing friends!”and you can’t but join in whishing the StarBoy an even more amazing y e a r than 2016.
